Last week, exactly on March 19th – 22th, Bina Nusantara International (BI) University held an event which called BI Week. Actually, the objective of this event was to enrich the students’ experiences during their study in BI by providing more opportunities to know more about many things outside such as business world, several business cultures, networking system used by each company, and international company visit. This event also provided the chance for BI students to learn more foreign language such as Chinese, Korean, and German. For HTM (Hospitality and Tourism Management), there were the tour schedule to visit Kota Tua, Jakarta City, TMII, and Bogor. There were guest lectures and many kinds of info about study abroad, student exchange, and job vacancy.
Firstly, on the first day of BI Week I attended Company Visit to Microsoft Indonesia schedule. In this occasion, me and the other IS students got out from campus and visited Microsoft Indonesia Company near One Pacific Place Mall. We went to there by bus which was hired by BI for that day. We got there only in around 20 minutes because that company wasn’t too far from our campus. After that, guided by the one tour guide, we were taken to Microsoft Company’s office which placed on the 18th floor in that building. And then, we got the lecture session by one of their staff which discussed about many things such as Imagine Cup (the biggest IT competition in this world), How Microsoft make, test, and launch their new features and programs, Job Opportunities and Requirements in Microsoft, and a few things about IT development in this modern era. This occasion was good for me, because I thought this company really offering the great job opportunities regarding to my major in my study period, for example in analytical and marketing aspect.
Secondly, on the second day, I joined the occasion Company Visit to Yahoo! Indonesia. The Yahoo! Indonesia’s office is in Sentra Senayan 2, the building near Plaza Senayan and Senayan City. The sessions that provided by Yahoo! Indonesia including office tour, lecture about how Yahoo! developing their new feature, how Yahoo! implementing, testing the program they set, some kinds of career opportunities, explanation about job requirements which necessary to apply as Yahoo! Indonesia employee, and also question-answer session. By visiting Yahoo! Indonesia, I know that Yahoo! is a really creative and innovative company. If related them to Systems Thinking Principles, they are really great in setting their mental model, because they know how to think creative and know what their user want and like. By making their new own feature, they also indirectly set and change their customer mindset and behavior. So, it makes most of their user interesting to their new innovation.
Lastly, on the third day, there was a Exclusive Entrepreneurship Lecture by CEO of Kaskus, Ken Dean Lawadinata. In this session, we didn’t have to go out from campus because he and his staff came to our campus. Ken taught us how to be a good entrepreneur, how to face the problems in business from the small until the biggest and difficult one. He also said that we are better to do what we can do at one certain time and don’t think too much and long or all the good ones and opportunities would be gone. By his teaching, we learnt how to be a great and successful entrepreneur. We must have the personal mastery to be like that.
In conclusion, all the sessions during the BI Week were really meaningful. It all gave me the new knowledge to enrich my capability to reach my future. This event also set and changed a little bit of my mindset and how to solving problem effectively skill. It’s really really awesome.
